Akkaraipattu Municipal Council's Deputy Mayor Abdul Gaffor Azmi who was arrested over a court warrant was released on bail.
He was arrested regarding a case pertaining to exchanging information with people who had connections to terrorist activities which threatened State security. He was was granted bail by Colombo Additional Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali yesterday.
The Additional Magistrate ordered to release the Deputy Mayor on a surety of Rs.100,000.
The Deputy Mayor was arrested for his failure to appear before the TID complying with a warrant issued against him. On a previous occasion, the Magistrate issued a warrant against the suspect.
The Magistrate ordered him to appear before the TID between January 29 and 31 to record a statement.
The suspect was arrested when he participated in a function held in Maradana yesterday.
The Magistrate fixed further inquiries for February 21.
