‘Pseudo govt. caused severe damage to economy’

The Constitutional coup on October 26, 2018 created a black mark for democracy in Sri Lanka. But, the unity of the people and the independence of the judiciary enabled the country to send the pseudo government home. The economic damage caused during the short term of that pseudo government cannot be easily rectified. Practical measures rather than circulars are needed for resolving the country’s problems. All these years we engaged in good governance,Power and Energy and Business Development Minister Ravi Karunanayake said.

He was addressing the gathering at a distribution of school uniforms and educational equipment at the Sambodhi Viharaya, Arunodaya Mawatha, Obeysekerapura, Rajagiriya on January 15.

Minister Karunanayake said that enven though there was massive development work undertaken during the last three to four years, the common belief among people was that it was not tangible. In some areas there had been no equitable distribution of the dividends of development.

Karunanayake said that no party in the country other than the United National Party has allocated large sums of money for the country’s development.

“The Kotte area was brought under a massive development drive, when I was Kotte organizer. These development activities should be carried forward,” he said

Karunanayake added that he will provide electricity to every household in the country at a fair rate.

“We should give priority to the people’s needs. We will initiate the programme to provide electricity to every house hold at fair rates from the Colombo district and it would be extended to other parts of the country,” he said.
