A fine all-round team performance saw S. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia thrash Ananda College by an innings and 95 runs at Ananda Mawatha yesterday in their Singer Cup under 19 schools tournament match to record the first win over their opponents in 43 years.
S. Thomas’ last won under the captaincy of Sashi Ganeshan at Mt. Lavinia in 1976.
The ground work for the Thomian victory was laid by their skipper Sithara Hapuhinna whose brilliant knock of 142 gave them a solid platform to push for victory after running up an impressive total of 354-8 declared.
Ananda’s batting crumbled against the pace of Kalana Perera and the left-arm leg-spin of Dellon Peiris and Shannon Fernando to be shot out for totals of 114 and 145 (following-on).
The win was the Thomians’ fourth of the season.
In the other matches concluded yesterday St. Mary’s Kegalle beat Seethawaka Central Avissawella by five wickets at Ruwanwella, Wadduwa Central College beat St. Jude’s College Kurana by an innings at Godigamuwa and Wayamba Royal College Kurunegala beat Nugawela Central by five wickets at Boyagane.
