Patient hangs due to pain

A 56-year-old patient was found hanging from a rafter at ward number four at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle yesterday.

Karapitiya Hospital Police said the man had been suffering from a recurring abdominal pain and may have committed suicide due to unbearable pain.

The Police said they found a suicide note written by the deceased person. Meanwhile, the Inquirer Into Sudden Deaths later confirmed the patient had committed suicide.

The postmortem was held at the hospital mortuary by Inquirer Into Sudden Deaths A.R.M.Nizam who returned a verdict of suicide by hanging. The patient who committed suicide has been identified as a resident of Rajagalgoda, Matara.
