Fifty-eight persons in Galewela are infected with Leishmaniasis. However, there is no epidemic, said Galewela Medical Officer of Health J. M. Ratnayake.
He said the disease is caused by a sand fly (Ho Haputuwa) and could be cured or prevented. He added that wounds could heal in a few months. Ratnayake said eight patients were reported with the infection during the last two weeks.
