IGP provided voice samples to Govt Analyst’s Dept.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara appeared before the Government Analyst yesterday morning to provide his voice samples as part of the ongoing investigations into the alleged plot to assassinate President Maithripala Sirisena and former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

The IGP was summoned to the Government Analyst’s Department to obtain voice samples to test whether those tally with the audio recordings stored in Namal Kumara’s mobile phone.

The Criminal Investigation Department which is investigating into the alleged conspiracy recently retrieved deleted conversations from Kumara’s phone with the assistance of the Government Analyst and experts from Hong Kong.

Police have so far found no substantial evidence to prove that there had been a plot to kill President Sirisena and former Defence Secretary Rajapaksa. Namal Kumara, who had formed a local activist group, came out with a series of allegations in September last year, stating that former director of the Terrorist Investigations Division DIG Nalaka de Silva discussed with him an alleged plot to kill President Sirisena and former Defence Secretary Rajapaksa. Despite the repeated attempts by journalists gathered at the Government Analyst’s Department premises to know the IGP’s stance on Namal Kumara’s allegations and the status of the investigations, the IGP left the premises without answering the questions posed by the media.
