One dead, another injured in motorcycle crash

A motorcyclist died, while the pillion rider was critically injured after their motorcycle collided with a lorry at the Central Road Junction on Galle road in Thalpitiya-North, Wadduwa at around 1. 30 am on Saturday.

It was revealed that the two victims were returning from a musical show held at Morontuduwa when their motorcycle crashed on to a lorry that was transporting weekend newspapers to down south.

The deceased and the injured were identified as 18-year-old Pattiyage Luxshan Madusanka Fernando and 19-year-old Supun Srihan, residents of Kalutara North.

The Panadura Inquirer into Sudden Deaths held the inquest at the Panadura Base Hospital on Saturday and recorded a verdict of death due to shock and haemorrhage following the multiple injuries sustained at the accident.

The Coroner directed the Wadduwa Police to produce the lorry driver who surrendered to the police on the same night before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court with a B report. Traffic Branch of the Wadduwa Police is conducting investigations.
