Brakes for substandard driving schools

Substandard driving schools will be raided by Department of Motor Traffic officials starting from this month.

Commissioner General of the Department Jagath Chandrasiri has sent a circular to the Divisional Secretaries and the District Secretaries informing them that the raids will be conducted from January 16 to March 31. Many driving schools are not to the required standards and they produce drivers with insufficient train, department sources said.

The country has only 540 registered driving schools, Kurunegala District Divisional Secretary W.E.Jayathilake said.

He was speaking at a meeting of driving school managers in Kurunegala at the Kurunegala Divisional Secretariat yesterday.
