He was speaking at a special event to mark the winning of the International Innovation awards for Sri Lanka’s homegrown, Supirivicky, presented by Enterprise Asia, the leading non-governmental organization for entrepreneurship in Asia for 2018 in Hong Kong.

“This award is a testimony of my family’s untiring efforts to preserve our age old traditions and remedies in a modern form, one that would appeal to both local and international customers, without losing its identity or intrinsic characteristics,” said Hettigoda. He said that this award also proves that local herbal products are well respected internationally.

Supirivicky was launched to the local market in 1988 and was the the world’s first nonwhite toothpaste based on traditional Ayurveda herbs for total oral care.

He said that their export market too was in growing and today over 70% of their products are exported.
