Lanka Sathosa fixed their own prices - Minister Ravi

Former Trade, Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Ravi Karunanayake stated that he had no power to fix prices of goods in Lanka Sathosa.

He was giving evidence in a case filed against the former Lanka Sathosa General Manager Wimal Perera yesterday.

Evidence was led by Bribery Commission’s Assistant Director General Asitha Anthony.

Perera is accused of incurring a loss of Rs. 4 million to the government when importing rice to Lanka Sathosa in 2002, by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

Karunanayake was the Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister from 2001 to 2004.

On a previous hearing day, evidence was recorded from former Consumer Affairs Minister Ravi Karunanayake’s private secretary Anne Vindya Fernando. Evidence was led by Bribery Commission’s Assistant Director Asitha Anthony. The Magistrate fixed further trial for February 8.
