Mihin owes Rs.745 mn to SriLankan, PCoI told

Sri Lanka’s budget airline, Mihin Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd is due to pay Rs.745 million to the national carrier, SriLankan Airlines for various services provided by them upto Mihin’s closure in 2016, it was revealed before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) yesterday.

The Credit Control Manager of the Finance Division of the SriLankan Airlines Nilushi Jayasuriya was testifying before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry in to the Irregularities at SriLankan Airlines, SriLankan Catering and Mihin Lanka Pvt. Ltd yesterday.

She said that these services include engineering services, ground handling, inter-line services, rent charges, professional services, and electricity bills.

According to her, the total amount to be paid by Mihin Lanka is Rs.745,431,767.75.

Mihin Lanka was set to liquidate in 2017 and Jayasuriya said that SriLankan Airlines has lodged a claim to the liquidator regarding these dues. “Mihin Lanka also confirmed these dues as at March 31, 2017,” she told the PCoI.

It was earlier revealed by the General Treasury that Mihin Lanka, which was a loss making venture, had been established in the year 2006 even without prior approval or a memorandum of the Cabinet of Ministers under the Mahinda Rakapaksa regime.
