Child dies in accident

An eleven-year-old schoolboy succumbed to his injuries in an accident which occurred on the main road leading to Giriulla from Negombo on Monday.

According to Kotadeniyawa Police, the accident took place when a van ran over the child when he tried to cross the road in front of Godigamuwa Central College with his grandfather.

The boy was thrown 25 metres away from van. The child was immediately admitted to Akaragama Government Hospital by residents. According to the hospital sources, the victim had died upon admission to hospital.

The postmortem was carried out by the Inquirer into Sudden Deaths of the Negombo District Hospital.

The van driver was taken into police custody by Kotadeniyawa Police.

Police are investigating.
