Laizhou City Laiyu Chemical Co. Ltd, China, Zetryl Chem.Phils, Philippines and Araliya Agro Holdings (Pvt) Ltd, Sri Lanka will set up a manufacturing plant in Sri Lanka next year.
The three companies would invest around Rs. 360 million to set up this plant in Polonnaruwa.
President Philippines’ Zetryl Chem.Phils, Danton Pajarillaga said that they will utilize paddy husk, vegetable waste and other locally found material to manufacture fertilizer. “We will only import enzymes which will make local value addition of over 96%.”
He also said this is the first time that both China’s Laizhou City Laiyu Chemical Co. Ltd and Philippines’ Zetryl Chem.Phils are investing in the SARRC for a fertilizer factory and they hope to re export around 35% to the region.”
Pajarillaga said that they also have an alternate fertilizer to replace glyphosate for the plantation sector.
Araliya Group Chairman P.G.W. Sirisena said that a 10 acre land in Polonnaruwa has been already allocated for this project. “Araliya Group of Companies today is spread across diverse business segments including agriculture, leisure and tourism, engineering and constructions. Fertilizer business is our 15th diversified venture after starting as a paddy miller.”
“We plan to produce fertilizer to meet the requirements of separate provinces and the two companies have already conducted a series of soil tests in the past two years in Sri Lanka in paddy fields experimenting various imported fertilizers. Results show that plants have stood firm in different climatic conditions and have been able to produce bumper crops as well.”
He also said that they also hope to purchase food and agriculture waste during the manufacturing process and thereby helping the disposal of garbage as well.
“We will also look at the manufacture of rice based flour and introduce cool room facilities to store lime, onions, green chilies that become very expensive during off season. Paddy cultivation in the dry zone, which makes the largest contribution to Sri Lanka’s agriculture sector, is severely hit by the area’s inability to resist diverse climatic conditions such as strong winds, droughts and floods.
“We plan in making various varieties of fertilizer that would be resistant to the climatic conditions and increasing yields.
These fertilizer will be supplied to the market under the ‘Araliya’ brand.
Sirisena said that they will initially import fertilizer from both companies and an agreement to this effect was inked yesterday at the Shangri-La Hotel Colombo.
Araliya Agro Holdings (Pvt) Ltd was established in Sri Lanka in 2017, through the joint collaboration of the two Chinese and Philippine companies.
