Suspects held for illicit sand transportation

Bingiriya Police arrested two tipper drivers transporting sand illegally excavated from the Deduru Oya, recently.

They were produced before Hettipola Magistrate M.F. Mahaphy, who fined them Rs.20,000. Bingiriya Police prosecuted.

About 1,876 suspects were arrested for illegal sand transportation, last year, in Kurunegala. They were fined nearly Rs.30 million, Bingiriya Police said.
