President Maithripala Sirisena had instructed Finance and Mass Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera to submit his budget proposals on Monday at the Cabinet meeting held yesterday.
The UNP-led United National Front Cabinet met yesterday after its reshuffle under President Maithripala Sirisena following reappointment of Ranil Wickremesinghe as Prime Minister.
Industry and Commerce, Resettlement of Protracted Displaced Persons and Co-operative Development Minister Rishad Bathiudeen said President Maithripala Sirisena chaired the meeting.
Finance and Mass Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera had drawn the President’s attention on the Budget 2019, he said. Minister Bathiudeen said they require the fullest support and co-operation of President Maithripala Sirisena to run the government.
“We hope that the President will extend that support in spite of the current volatile and tense political climate,” he added.
