Father of three strangled to death

Specialist Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) Rohan P. Ruwanpura who held an autopsy into the death of a 68-year-old father of three, returned a verdict of homicide by strangulation. Earlier it was suspected to be a death due to a heart attack.

The slain father identified as Attanagalla Gamage Cyri l of Davulahena, Udugama in Galle, had lived lonely in his own house as his children had deserted him after their marriages.

He was found dead on a chair inside the house by Udugama Police on information received from his neighbours on Tuesday. The neighbours who smelled a stink from the direction of the house had informed the Police.

Subsequently, the respective Inquirer into Sudden Deaths had held the inquest and after recording the preliminary evidence had referred the body for a postmortem at Galle Karapitiya Teaching Hospital. The Specialist JMO had further stated in his report that an individual who approached him directly, had strangled himself one hand.

Udugama Police who initiated investigations into the alleged murder was to make their submission to the Udugama Magistrate.
