About 493 accidents were reported to the Colombo National Hospital on New Year’s Eve, the National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL) sources said.
According to the sources, this is a three percent decrease when compared with the 512 accidents reported last year. A total of 119 road accidents were reported during the period.
A total of 44 domestic accidents were reported this year, which is a 49 percent decrease when compared with last year. A hundred and fifty-nine were injured due to falls and 37 cases of violence were reported, the sources added. These were a 13 percent decrease from last year.
Eleven people were admitted with burnt injuries caused by the careless handling of firecrackers. A total of 193 still receive treatment at the hospital, the sources added.
