Nipun (165) excels for St. Joseph Vaz

A chanceless knock of 165 runs by Sri Lanka Under 19 skipper and St. Joseph Vaz College player Nipun Dananjaya Perera was the bright spot of the drawn first eleven inter school cricket match against S. Thomas College Mt. Lavinia which was worked off at Wennappura. However Thomians were able to gain the honours in this encounter by gaining a first innings lead of eight runs with three wickets intact.

Nipun who scored a magnificent 114 runs against Moratu Vidyalaya at their own den in his previous match was in fine form and had twenty one hits to the ropes and two over and occupied the crease for 196 minutes and faced 186 balls.

He proved his class with the bat against formidable and more fancied lads from Mount Lavinia and also he became the first ever player from St. Joseph Vaz to notch up a century against Thomians in the history of Vazian first eleven cricket.

Batting first Vazians scored 279 runs and in reply at stamps Thomians were 287 for 7 with Kishan Munasinghe 66, Dellon Peiris 54, Umayanga Suwaris 52 and Shalin de Mel 50 runs.
