Zam Gems, an internationally reputed name in the gem and jewellery industry, has become synonymous with ‘Trust’ and ‘Confidence’ among their plethora of loyal clients.

“In the early 1980s we purchased a company called Siri Gems with a branch at the then Oberoi Hotel, now the Cinnamon Grand Hotel. From there onwards we got into the Colombo Hilton and in 1990s we opened the Head Office Showroom in Bambalapitiya, a branch in Kandy and at Cinnamon Lakeside, and now we have twelve showrooms in Sri Lanka, and hope to further increase this number in the future,” said Zam Gems Managing Director and newly appointed Chairman of Sri Lanka Gems & Jewellery Association, Ashan Refai.

The Zam Gems Sales Team is a highly trained and could advise clients on how to detect hues, tones and saturations, ensuring you receive the finest stones, free of blemishes, he said.

Sri Lanka is also targeting the gem and jewellery industry as a billion dollar industry which could be achieved easily.

In 1976 the company was officially incorporated and we became an export-oriented company. With the boom experienced by the country in the 1970s and 1980s, the responses received by Zam Gems were enormous. Especially with the Japanese and the American markets at that time, my father was soon able to become one of the leading gem and jewelry exporters.

Thereafter we diversified into jewellery manufacturing and retailing in the late 1980s. The first Zam Gems showroom was established on the Macan Markar Arcade at Galle Face called El Dorado.
