Nation voices solidarity with new government

Rata Rakina Jana Mahimaya, a massive public rally organised in support of the new government, was held at the Polduwa Parliament Junction, yesterday, under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Thousands of supporters of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) representing almost all districts, together with other supporting allies, joined the rally to show their solidarity with the decision taken by President Maithripala Sirisena to appoint the new Prime Minister.

Former Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne, Cabinet, State, and Deputy Ministers, parliamentarians, provincial council members, and members of the local government bodies of the United People’s Freedom Alliance joined the rally.

Religious representatives, civil society organisations, Trade Union members of the SLFP and a large crowd of the public joined as well, despite the heavy rains that prevailed throughout the day. The welcome speech was delivered by MP Rohitha Abeygunawardane.

Meanwhile, a heavy traffic congestion was reported on roads connecting Battaramulla and Polduwa.
