Heroin and cannabis seized, five arrested

 Police seized 2.1 Kg of heroin and 94.25 Kg of cannabis and arrested five suspects in raids in Mannar and Dharmapuram on Monday.

A team of Mannar Police on Monday arrested five suspects who smuggled 2.1 Kg of heroin in a boat at Wankala beach. They are residents of Wankale. The suspects are being interrogated under detention orders obtained from the Mannar Magistrate.

Meanwhile, a team of Dharmapuram Police on a tip-off seized 94.25 Kg of cannabis at Chundikulam beach. Suspects escaped leaving the stock of cannabis in the boat. Dharmapuram Police commenced a search operation to arrest the suspects
