Bribery case: Mahagamage Gamini re-remanded till Aug. 21

Former Import and Export Controller Mahagamage Gamini, who was in remand for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs. 200,000 from a businessman, was re-remanded till August 21 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake, yesterday.

Attorneys-at-law Anura Chandrasiri and Hematha Gamage, appearing on behalf of the suspect, asked that their client be granted bail on suitable condition.

The attorneys also told court that their client’s health condition be considered as a special circumstance for granting bail.

Mahagamage Gamini had allegedly solicited a bribe of Rs. 200,000 from a businessman in Weligama to provide a report containing recommendations necessary to import two vehicles from Japan, which are around 10 years old, through legal channels

After considering all the matters, the magistrate fixed the inquiry and bail order for August 21.
