Eleven fined for misuse of level-crossing

Galle Additional Magistrate Asanga Hettiwatte imposed a fine Rs.22,000 on 11 motorcyclists (Rs. 2,000 each) as they were found guilty of attempting to cross a railway level-crossing while the gate was closed and the signal lights were on.

A group of railway officers apprehended 12 respondents while they were riding past the closed level-crossing and 11 suspects were produced before the magistrate. The magistrate issued a warrant on the 12th suspect who was not present in court.

Railway security officers Sisira Kumara, Anandalal, Ariyarathne, Ajith Prasanna, Deepani, and Nilusha Geetha Kumara led by Galle Railway Station Security OIC H.P.W. Leslie, under the instructions of Railway Security Services Superintendent K.G. Anura Premarathne and Assistant Superintendent (South) G.W. Sumith made the arrests.
