The Opening Ceremony of the Refurbished Cadet Band Room of Royal College.

The grand opening of the renovated Cadet Band Room at the Royal College with state-of-art facilities was held on June 14, 2018.

The occasion was graced by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Admiral Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne WV, RWP & Bar, RSP, VSV, USP, ndc, psn as the Chief Guest.

The Cadet Band Room renovation project has been initiated by Old Royalists’ Cadet Band Association (ORCBA) and completed with the fullest financial assistance of ORCBA members. Chandimal Fernando, founder and President of ORCBA headed the renovation project. 

The event unfolded subsequent to a Guard of Honour presented to the Chief of Defence Staff by the Royal College Cadet Contingent. Felicitation Ceremony was held at the Navarangahala and Old Royalists who were members of the Royal College Cadet Band received tokens of appreciation from the Chief Guest for their valuable service rendered to the sovereignty of motherland. Past Officers-in-charge, Masters-in-Charge, Past Music Instructors of Royal College Cadet Band were also felicitated at the ceremony. 

Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Principal of Royal College Mr. B. A. Abeyrathna, senior tri-service officers and family members of fallen War Heroes from Royal College laid floral wreaths commemorating and in tribute to past Royalists who had paid their ultimate sacrifice on behalf of the motherland at the college War Memorial.

Subsequent to the wreath-laying ceremony, the renovated Cadet Band Room was declared open by the Chief of Defence Staff.

Members of Royal College School Management, Senior Officers of National Cadet Corps, Office Bearers of Royal College Union, Office Bearers of Royal College School Development Society, Past Officers-in-charge, Masters-in-Charge, Past Music Instructors of Royal College Cadet Band, Past members of the Royal College Cadet Contingent and the students of Royal College including tri-services personnel were also present at the occasion.
