The Draft of the Comprehensive National Agriculture Policy compiled for the first time in history to uplift the country’s agriculture sector, was handed over to Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, recently.
Minister Amaraweera said this national agriculture policy was drafted with the contribution of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. It is scheduled to be presented in Parliament after receiving Cabinet approval. The policy was formulated with the aim of achieving sustainable agriculture development goals in order to ensure the country’s food security. Through this policy, it is also expected to enhance the efficiency of farming practices and to provide a better price for agricultural produce.
