The investigations into Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal Councillor Ranjan De Silva was handed over to the Crimes Investigation Department CID on the instructions of IGP Pujith Jayasundara.
Several police teams will assist the CID along with the Mirihana Special Police Division.
Ranjan De Silva, Sri Lanka national cricketer Dhananjaya De Silava’s father, was murdered by three men on May 24 near his residence in Ratmalana.
Two other individuals were injured in the attack and admitted to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital. Three underworld members were arrested for the murder to date.
Dananjaya De Silva had left the country to join the Sri Lankan team in the West Indies for the upcoming tournament on the weekend.
