The Police Organised Crimes Prevention Unit arrested two accomplices of the underworld figure Amal Sinhara alias ‘Kudu Anju’, around 5.45 am yesterday, from the Jayasumanarama Road area in Angulana.
Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara told the Daily News that the two suspects Podi Prabath and Welle Senaka were arrested for having 8 grams and 850 mg of heroin and hashish in their possession. It is believed that the recent shooting incident on May 24 in the Gnanendra Road area in Ratmalana where the father of cricketer Dhananjaya Silva was killed and two others sustained injuries, was carried out by the disciples of ‘Kudu Anju’.
Meanwhile, the Police Spokesman said these two suspects had been arrested over the possession of drugs and there was no proof to connect them to the shooting incident. However, he said the two suspects were produced in court yesterday and held under detention orders for seven days for further questioning to determine if they had any connection with the shooting.
