‘Podi Lassie’ released on bail

Galle High Court Judge Manjula Thialakaratne released Arumahandi Janith Madusanka alias ‘Podi Lassie’, the suspect who had been remanded in connection of the murder of former Chairman of Rathgama Pradeshiya Sabha, on a cash bail of Rs. one million and three sureties of Rs. 2.5 million each.

The High Court who issued the order after considering a bail application submitted in respect of the suspect, further ordered the convict to report to Hikkaduwa Police on every Sunday and one of the sureties should be a government employee.

The suspect had been indicted for committing the murder of the former Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman and causing fatal injuries to another person.

Subsequently, he was arrested by the police while he was absconding arrest and produced before the judiciary and remanded.

Later, he was released on bail.

However, after he was released, 'Podi Lassie' avoided the presence at court continuously contravening bail conditions.

Meanwhile, he was suspected for the triple murder reported from the Ambalangoda Police Division in December 2016 and was arrested and remanded for the second consecutive term.

Thus, he is indicted for two murder cases.
