Protest over assault on Batticaloa Irrigation Officer

A large protest demonstration was held in Batticaloa yesterday against the alleged assault on an officer of the Irrigation Department in Batticaloa. The protesters who demanded the arrest of the culprits involved in the assault, later assembled at the Mahatma Gandhi Park to continue their protest.

A large police contingent was deployed at the venue to defuse the tense atmosphere. They were protesting against the alleged assault on Irrigation Officer Divakaran, when he went to open the sluice gates of the Unnichchawewa on May 25.
