The 40th Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer Awards ceremony will be held shortly at the Colombo Hilton on a grand scale.

Officials from the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association, Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers and the Ministry of Education met at the Colombo Hilton on Monday to finalize the nominations for awards after several hours of deliberations.

With many exceptionally talented players in the fray from both the City and the outstations, it was not easy to pick their selections. Readers of ANCL publications also had an opportunity to nominate the most popular schoolboy cricketer while all other awards will be decided on by the eminent panel of judges comprising officials from the above organisations.

The Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer Awards has been the launching pad of many of the top Sri Lankan international cricket stars and it is not likely to be different this year too.

With the rising prominence of women’s cricket worldwide, the event will formally recognize the cricketing talents of Sri Lankan schoolgirls from 2019, but will include a segment dedicated to girl’s school cricket this year as well. The Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer Awards, one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the local cricket calendar, is sponsored by Mobitel.
