Galle led by hard hitting all-rounder Dasun Shanaka emerged champions of the SLC Super 4 Provincial Tournament when they drew their final league match against Kandy at Hambantota yesterday.
The first innings points they took from the game was sufficient to give them a total of 38.03 points and make them champions. They had in their first two games too picked up enough first innings points to hold onto a near three-point lead over second placed Dambulla who beat Colombo by five wickets at Dambulla.
Galle declared their second innings at 306-9 setting Kandy the imposing target of 547 to chase for victory. Kandy who were dismissed for 185 in their first innings put up a strong batting performance in their second knock finishing on 363-3 with Pathum Nissanka being the main scorer with a superb 188 not out off 226 balls inclusive of 20 fours and 3 sixes. Nissanka shared a second wicket stand of 144 with Charith Asalanka (62).
