City Cinema - Mount Lavinia is the only cinema which has two digital cutouts fixed on both sides of the cinema in the island. The printing cost for the cutouts is undertaken by the cinema itself, from the inception of the cinema in 2015, whereas most of the cinemas island wide seeks the cutouts from the producers and the suppliers of the films. For each event they print around 500 posters and paste them all over the town.

This cinema which is equipped with 100 reclining seats, A/C, 2K digital, cinema with 5.1 surround sound systems and a large screen is on par with a Colombo cinema. There is ample basement car park facility without charges and the cinema canteen products are reasonably priced. This cinema is located at the Mount City building on the fourth floor where elevator facility is available. It is located near Nolimit and Cargills Food City. The current show times are 10.30 am, 1.30 pm, and 7pm for Sinhala films. English or Hindi films are screened at 4.15 pm while Tamil or Hindi films are screened at 9.30 pm.

The owner of the cinema is Nishantha Pradeep Mohottige, an award winning film editor, producer and cinema technician. He is the secretary of the Film Exhibitors Association and the son of the late Meryll Albert, the producer and director of ‘Dahakin Ekek’ and ‘Api Denna’. New Janaki cinema – Mathugama too is under him.
