Batticaloa experiences heavy showers

After the long period of drought, Batticaloa is finally experiencing heavy rain-fall.

The Batticaloa Meteorology Department said that rainfall have been recorded in Batticaloa as 47.4 mm, Navakiri as 77.0 mm, Thumbankeny as 62.2 mm, Mylambaveli as 19.0 mm, Pasikkudha as 36.3 mm, Unnichchai as 20.2 mm, Vakaneri as 15.6 mm, Kaddumurivu as 17.2 mm, Rugam as 25.3 mm, Kathiraveli as 28.4 mm and Kiran as 20.3 mm up to 8.30 am yesterday (12).

The low-lying areas in Batticaloa town are inundated and the road leading from the bus stand to Trincomalee road has gone under water. Owing to the inclement weather fishermen are unable to go out to sea as well.
