Chamly, SPC’s new Leader of House

Councillor Chamly Withanachchi was appointed Leader of the House of the Southern Provincial Council, at a council meeting presided over by Chairman Somawansa Kodagoda, on Tuesday.

Withanachchi is the 30th Leader of the House and he fills the vacancy created by former Leader of the House Manoj Sirisena’s appointment as Provincial Sports and Youth Affairs, Rural Development, Cultural and Arts Affairs, Social Welfare, Probation and Child Care Minister.

Eighteen councillors loyal to the Joint Opposition had written to Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal De Silva appealing the appointment.
