Dweetheeya Sangha Nayaka of Sathara Korale appointed

Ven. Sumangala Maha Nayaka Thera of Malwatte Chapter with the concurrence of the karaka sabha of the chapter was presented the Act of Appointment a ‘Sannas Patha’ of Dweetheeya Sangha Nayake of Sathara Korale with the honorary title ‘Saddharma Keerthi Sri Siriniwasa’ on February 16 at 3.00 pm at historic Visumpaya Uposathagaraya of Malwatte Maha Viharaya, Kandy.

A felicitation meeting was held on the 17th instant at 3.00 pm presided over by Ven Niyangoda Vijithasiri Anunayake Thera of Malwatte Chapter. Ven Pandit Kapuliyadde Dheerananda Nayake Thera, member, Karaka Sabha of the Chapter, Ven. Nayaka Theras of Kegalle District, Buddha Sasana Minister Gamini Jayawickrema Perera, Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Chief Minister Maheepala Herath, state Minister Champika Premadasa and Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela attended among other distinguished invitees.

On February 18, a Sanghika Dana was held for the Maha Sangha and an anusasanawa was delivered by the Ven, Dimbulkumbura Wimaladhamma Anunayake Thera of Malwatte Chapter. Ven. Mahopadyaya Pandit Henepola Nandasiri Nayake Thera of Malwatte Chapter. Ven. Mahopadyaya Pandit Henepola Nandasiri Nayake Thera of Malwatte Karaka Sabha and Nayake Theras of the area attended.

Born on February 16, 1967, to parents Kehelwak Ralalage Kiribanda and Violet Nona at Othnapitiya near Warakapola, Ven. Sumangala Maha Nayaka Thera attended Othnapitiya Junior school and Perakumba Maha Vidyalaya of Dedigama for his primary education and when he was 14 years of age was ordained as a Samanera on March 5, 1981 at Dedigama Raja Maha Viharaya as a pupil of the late Ven Madawala Siriniwasa and late Menikkadawara Sumanajothi Nayake theras.

He received his secondary education at Saithyodaa Pirivena Edurapotha and higher education at Madanwala Pirivena, Hanguranketha where he was taught in Pali, Sinhala, Sanskrit, and Buddhist doctrine.

Thereafter, he joined Keraminiya Ancestral Ayurvedic College, Mawanella under the tutelage of Ven. Keraminiye Chandaloka Thera where he was made a lecturer after completion of studies.

His higher ordination or Upasampadawa was held on May 30, 1987, at the historic Visumpaya Uposathagaraya by the Mahanayake Thera of Malwatte Chapter and afterwards, he returned to Dedegama Raja Maha Viharaya and engaged in religious and social activities. He opened a branch of Keraminiya Ancestral Ayurvedic Dispensary at Dedigama.
