Court orders gang leader’s body to be given to wife

The Wattala Magistrate’s Court had issued an order that the body of underworld figure Dadalle Manju who was shot and killed by the STF last week during a raid, be handed over to his wife.

The Wattala Police had sought court assistance with regard to the handing over of his body, as his wife and mother were each demanding the body.

Therefore, the body was kept at the Ragama hospital mortuary, pending the court verdict.

Meanwhile, due to hostility between the two parties, the mother and sister of the gang leader had reportedly assaulted his wife when she had tried to take custody of his body.

Manju’s mother had told police that the woman claiming her son’s body is not his legal wife and the marriage certificate produced by her is fake.

However, Manju’s wife had told police that she was legally married to him and has a six-year-old child by him.

The underworld drug leader, Dadallage Manju, was shot and killed in a confrontation with the STF last Thursday in Wattala. STF personnel had engaged in a search operation based on a tip-off and while they tried to search a van, the occupants of the van had opened fire on them. In retaliation, the STF had shot back killing Manju.
