Candidate caught with liquor

A candidate of a major political party who contested the LG polls from Galgamuwa area in Kurunegala was arrested with 22 bottles of foreign liquor and eight bottles of beer, which was intended for his supporters.

A police team led by IP Wasantha Kumara, OIC of the Galgamuwa Police, arrested the suspect on the night of February 8. He confessed to police that since all liquor shops would be closed on the day of the polls, he had purchased the liquor in advance. The suspect is to be produced before Galgamuwa Magistrate today, a police officer of Galgamuwa Police told Daily News yesterday.
