Army provides relief to gale-hit Gampaha district

Army troops are still clearing obstructed areas and providing relief for the people at wind-hit locations of over 20 Grama Niladari Divisions in the Divulapitiya Divisional Secretariat area in the Gampaha District.

Navy and Air Force personnel, District Secretariat and officials of the Disaster Management Centre are supporting in the effort, the Army Media Unit said.

The sudden gale that hit the Western Province on Friday evening prompted Army personnel in the Security Force Headquarters-West (SFHQ-West) to rush to the affected areas and clear the areas and provide relief.

They are now clearing roads, restoring electricity, removing fallen trees and other obstruction, erecting temporary shelters and huts, laying tarpaulin on damaged roofs, and transporting garbage under the guidance of Major General Ralph Nugera, General Officer Commanding, 14 Division.

Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake instructed the SFHQ-West to take necessary steps to help the victims, following the incident.
