An aesthetic ceremony of differently abled persons of the Sabaragamuwa Province was held recently at Ratnapura. The ceremony was held in line with the “International Day of Persons with Disabilities” that fell on December 3, declared by the United nations.

The annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons was proclaimed in 1992, by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3.

It aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development, and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.

During this event, which was organized by the Probation and Social Service Department of the Sabaragamuwa Province, differently abled persons in the Kegalle and Ratnapura districts showcased their abilities especially in aesthetic sectors such as singing, dancing, acting and other performing art segments.

Sabaragamuwa Provincial Governor Marshel Perera and Provincial Chief Secretary Herath P. Kularatna also participated in the ceremony.
