Antonians and CH-FC’s young rugby Star

He played school rugby as a fly half/full back for his alma mater St. Anthony’s College Kandy in the inter-schools rugby championship and also had a distinction of representing the Sri Lanka national under 19 team. Then he went on to represent CH & FC at rugby in the ongoing Dialog “A” Division inter club tournament with flying colours. He has the rare distinction of becoming the highest point’s scorer in the just concluded inter-school league rugby tournament, scoring a total of 112 points with his sensational place kicking to go with scoring important tries and his cleaver feet movements. Today we go ‘Off the Field’ with this young hard working and dedicated rugby star Samuel Maduwantha, who hails from the city of Kandy.

Q: What made you to enter the world of sports?

A. Because of my beloved school St.Anthony’s College Kandy’s support forced me to enter the world of sports.

Q: Who has supported you most?

A. First it was my loving parents Because of my father, mother and brother’s support I have achieved a lot. From my childhood days I learned the “oval shaped game” from Nihal Gunaratne sir, Kodituwakku sir, Priyantha Gunaratne sir, Mendis sir, Viper sir, Nalaka Weerakkody sir, Faizal sir, my current coach MP Namal Rajapaksa and respective master in charges Dinesh sir and Palitha sir, all my school teacher’s, Rev father Araliya Jayasundara, Rev father principal Henry Bernard, and all the Antonian fraternity, well wishers, my friends Pulathisi Dassanayake, Janiru Dissanayake, Vikum Jayasooriya, Arunda, Madde, very specially Salena and specially all my team mates, family members who were behind me in difficult times and now from the club CH & FC I am getting huge support.

Q: What are your leisure time activities?

A. Being with friends in my off peak times.

Q: What are the top priorities in your life?

A. My family, Salena and rugby are my top priorities in life.

Q: What was your most unforgettable memory/incident?

A. The 54 meter drop goal against arch rivals Trinity and me becoming the highest points scorer in last year’s inter school league rugby tournament, scoring a total of 112 points was my most unforgettable memory/ incident.

Q: What’s your favourite holiday destination?

A. Paris.

Q: What is the greatest accomplishment in your life?

A. Playing club rugby for CH and FC.

A. The great Johnny Wilkinson.

Q: If you had one day left to live, what would you do?

A. My family is the most important thing to me in my life, so I will spend my last day with my family praying to Lord Jesus.

A. Yes, I do and am very much happy.
