JO sets conditions for SLFP on contesting LG polls

The Joint Opposition has asked the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) to leave the government and vote against the Budget if they are to contest together at the upcoming Local Government Elections.

Joint opposition MP Gamini Lokuge yesterday speaking to the Daily News said the SLFP could not run the national government with the UNP and the Local Government with the Joint Opposition.

“We have set up a committee for discussions with the SLFP but these are our conditions”, he added.

If the above conditions are not met, the Joint Opposition represented through the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), is to contest on its own at the Local Government Elections. The above decisions were made at the Parliamentary group meeting of the JO at the Parliament Complex.

The JO members also took part in the weekly party leaders’ meeting of the UPFA held yesterday evening.
