Colombo University Arts Faculty closed

The Faculty of Arts at the University of Colombo has been closed until further notice.

It was closed after a clash between two student groups at the faculty went out of control. Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof Athula Ranasinghe speaking to the Daily News said the clash had occurred yesterday afternoon but they were unaware of the cause of it.

“We tried to stop it and had two meetings but even after that they continued to fight”, he explained.

Prof. Ranasinghe added that the groups had taken their fight to the hostels once they were asked to leave the Faculty.

“So we had to also close all the male hostels”, the Dean said.
