Ransom seekers arrested

Two suspects, a 34-year-old labourer resident in Lunuwila, and a 30-year-old painter resident in Mudukatuwa have been arrested by the Marawila Police for allegedly demanding Rs. 50,000 as ransom from a resident in Katuneriya, who had returned from Italy after overseas employment.

This follows a complaint made by Dombawatta Vidanalage Prasanna Dhammika aged 38 from Mary's road, Medakatuneriya.

He has said in his complaint, that the two suspects came to his house on October 8 and demanded Rs. 50,000 from him and threatened to smash the windows of his van if he failed to grant their request.

He gave them Rs. 25,000 and left home to lodge the complaint on the pretext of going to meet his father to bring the balance amount, since he had no more cash with him at that moment.

Marawila Police is continuing the investigations.
