Kandy cricketers bound to shine this season

KANDY SPORTS ROUND UP

Schools cricket has always played a big part in the lives of the schoolboys cricketers in Kandy. With the inter-school cricket season just a few weeks old, the lads from Kandy schools are bound to do well.

They have produced good cricketers who have made Kandy, the school, the country and their parents proud. But schools like Vidyartha, St. Sylvester’s, Kingswood and Sri Sumangala (St. Paul’s) are faced with a problem due to lack of grounds to practice and play their matches. They are forced to go out of Kandy to play matches. Kandy has an International stadium only for International matches it is inexplicable why they don’t lease it to schools and help to promote the game.

Trinity College is one of the oldest cricket playing schools in the country. It has not only produced several top class players this institute has also produced several invincible teams. St. Anthony’s College Katugastota is also a major force in the schools cricket arena that has produced many top class teams and players. St. Sylvester’s are blessed with a good side. Though Dharmaraja College lost a game in their own den they are sure to do well. Sri Rahula College Katugastota too is in good form. Kingswood College has a well-balanced side, Vidyartha College is a school that has reached great heights in cricket with limited facilities. Sri Sumangala (St. Paul’s) College, Zahira College Katugastota, Nugawella Central, Madena Central Al-Azahr, and Ranabima Royal College are also expected to do well.
