PIM alumni launches Prof. Sudatta Ranasinghe memorial oration

The Alumni Association of the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIMAA), University of Sri Jayewardenepura, has made arrangements to commemorate the fourth death anniversary of Prof. Sudatta Ranasinghe, Senior Professor in Management of the Open University of Sri Lanka, who was a distinguished alumnus and a long-standing senior lecturer of the PIM.

The memorial oration will be delivered by Prof. Ajantha S. Dharmasiri, Director and Chairman of the Board of Management, PIM, and also the President of the Institute of Personnel Management (IPM).

The theme of the keynote speech will be “Reinventing HRM as Paradox Navigation: Reflections on a Rewarding Renewal.” Prof. Ranasinghe was an active member of the Executive Committee of PIMAA in the late 1990s.

Prof. Ranasinghe, BPA (Hon), PG Dip in App. Soc. Stats (Sri Lanka), MPA (of Sri Jayewardenepura), PhD (PIM) was the Senior Professor of Management, Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) at the time of his demise.

He performed yeomen service to the OUSL in various academic and administrative capacities including Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Prior to joining the OUSL, he served a long period of time at the PIM as a Consultant, Programme Coordinator and Senior Lecturer. He was also an Hon. Member, Institute of Personnel Management, Sri Lanka and a Member, Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science where he served with distinction.

Professor Ranasinghe was a reputed academic of the first order with a large number papers to his credit published in top ranking journals. He had also authored a number well received books on a variety of subjects.

As co-author with Prof. Ranasinghe of his last book titled ‘HR Challenge’, Prof. Dharmasiri will trace the transformation of the function of HRM and the emerging roles associated with it in the context of the changing and challenging global environment.
