Rigorous imprisonment for impersonator

A suspect found guilty of impersonation and lying to court was sentenced to one year rigorous imprisonment on both counts by the Ratnapura Chief Magistrate Saliya Channa Abeyratne on March 14. The Ratnapura Police said the suspects real name in his NIC was Dissanayake Arachchige Upali Ranjith.

But, he has appeared in the guise of Hettiarachchige Upali Ranjith when he was apprehended following a complaint that he used to frequent the Ratnapura Devale grounds as a beggar and engaged as a pickpocket.

Many pilgrims visiting the Devalaya had fallen victim to him.
