A 202 ball knock of 115 by Royal skipper Helitha Vithanage was the only highlight of the under 19 division one match against Thurstan College which ended in a draw at Thurstan grounds yesterday.

Royal invited to bat first after a delayed start due to a damp wicket were 99/3 at stumps when bad light prevented play on day one. They declared their innings at 312 for eight, 40 minutes before tea.

Vithanage who was unbeaten on two went onto score his second century of the season with 13 fours and a six. Earlier Vithanage had scored 119 runs against St Joseph’s College. Spin bowlers Naveen Guneratne and Jhanushka Fernando captured three wickets each.

Thurstan were seven wickets down for 136 runs when umpires called off the game due to bad light at 5.30 pm.

Opener Imesh Viranga hit a half century (65) and Kushen Guneratne captured three wickets.
