Hambantota SEZ with China declared open

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe this morning together with Chinese Ambassador Yi Xianliang declared open the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Hambantota.

The SEZ will see USD 1.1 billion of USD 8 billion debt owed to China by Sri Lanka waived in a debt-for-equity swap negotiated by the present government.

Develop Hambanthota in a honest manner without taking commissions etc.Let our hardworking private sector participate, using their manpower, their investment capital along with investment capital given by China. Allocate a area for Singaporeans to have a second home, do business, pay taxes and even remit their dividends. They are given that privilege in other countries which had brought great benefits to the host country. Our politicians must think about the country's welfare and development and not the pockets of the politicians.
