Members playing truant to be removed from hospital committees

Hospital Committees have been appointed in respect of all hospitals in the country but there are reports about committee members not attending the committee meetings as a habit. As such an order will be issued to remove members failing to attend three meetings of these committee consecutively and appoint new members to fill their vacancies said Health and Indigenous Medicine Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne.

The Minister said there were also reports of hospital committee members trying to override and overrule their hospital directors. However Hospital directors should know how to manage their hospital committees. Hospital property should always be safeguarded because they belonged to the state. Dr. Senaratne expressed these sentiments addressing an awareness program for members of all hospital committee held at the Ministry recently.

Dr.Senaratne said the distribution of blood investigation (testing) machines among all hospitals would be completed during the next fortnight since blood tests from the private sector would be banned for all patients admitted to government hospital from January 4.

The hospital doctors would be held accountable if any doctor referred an in house patient for blood tests to the private sector. In such an event disciplinary action would be taken against the respective hospital director, he said. Health Deputy Minister Faizal Cassim Ministry Secretary Anura Jayawickrama, Health services director General Palitha Maheepala and Additional Secretary (Development) Janaka Sri Chandragupta were also present on the occasion.
