‘Budget 2017’ final vote today

The final vote of ‘Budget 2017’ is scheduled to be taken in Parliament at 5.00 p.m. today.

The Budget proposals were presented to Parliament by Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake on November 10. The Second Reading was passed with a two thirds majority on November 18. The second reading debate started on November 11 and continued for seven allotted days. The Committee Stage debate commenced on November 19 and will conclude today. The Budget 2017 was presented with a broader theme of ‘Accelerating Growth with Social Inclusion’ aiming at alleviation of poverty and laying a strong economic foundation to achieve mid-term economic targets of the country.
